Choosing between Copilot and Claude?

11/08/26

Claude is everywhere right now, but does that mean you should ditch Copilot? Discover why the smartest answer might not be choosing one AI over another, and how businesses are getting the best of both worlds.

One of the most common questions we hear when talking about AI is:

“Should I use Copilot or Claude?”

The answer is that you don’t necessarily need to choose.

The paid version of Microsoft 365 Copilot gives eligible users access to several AI models. Depending on your organisation’s settings and the Copilot experience you’re using, this probably includes models from OpenAI (ChatGPT) and Anthropic (Claude).

It is like having a toolbox rather than relying on a single screwdriver.

The models are all a bit different. For instance, GPT-5.5 Instant is quick and well suited to tasks such as proofreading an email. GPT-5.6 takes more time to think through a task and is better suited to deeper work, such as writing a detailed report.

Then there are Anthropic’s Claude models that similarly have Opus which is the fast option for everyday tasks and Sonnet which is more powerful and suitable for deeper work.

Not sure which model to choose? That’s perfectly fine.

You can let Copilot decide the model for you. Or if you prefer, you can try out the available models and discover which ones work best for your role.

The important thing is that you don’t need to become an AI expert. Copilot brings these options together, helping you choose the right tool without constantly moving between separate AI platforms.

Why do businesses like Resolve use Claude through Copilot?

There are two important reasons businesses may choose to access Claude through Microsoft 365 Copilot: security and integration.

With the appropriate paid licence, Copilot works across Microsoft 365 and can use the emails, meetings, files and documents an individual already has permission to access. It works seamlessly with no copying and pasting between different systems, giving more relevant context and a smoother experience.

Microsoft 365 Copilot also provides business-grade security, privacy and administrative controls. Your organisation can control which models are available, while employees continue working within the familiar Microsoft environment. Anthropic models may need to be enabled by an administrator, particularly for organisations based in the UK.

Ultimately, the question isn’t “Copilot or Claude?”

It’s “How can Copilot help me choose the best model for the job?”
