A massive priority for Resolve is ensuring we educate the next generation of IT engineers, which means apprentices. This year we have been shortlisted for not one, but two awards at the South Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards – an event that recognises apprentices, apprenticeship providers and businesses offering apprenticeships across the region.
Mentor of the Year
Our Helpdesk team leader, Jared, has been nominated for the Mentor of the Year award which is given to an individual who has encouraged and inspired apprentices throughout their training programme.
We nominated Jared for this award as his unwavering dedication to the role and the apprentices is inspiring. He takes care of all the apprentices and keeps an eye on their training, workload and general wellbeing.
Aside from being the mentor for the apprentices, he works very closely with the apprenticeship provider to ensure that the curriculum is relevant and that the apprentices we have taken on get the most out of their experience at Resolve.
Over the past 12 months, Jared has gone above and beyond to ensure that the apprentices have got the most out of their experience at Resolve. When weaknesses in the provider’s system were identified, Jared put in countless extra hours to ensure that the apprentices were able to meet last-minute tight deadlines. He worked tirelessly to support them in revisiting their evidence portfolios by finding work that they had completed to be used as evidence. When the apprentices’ endpoint assessment clashed with his paternity leave, Jared ensured work was identified and continued to provide support for them during this time.
SME Employer of the Year
This year, Resolve was nominated for SME Employer of the Year for the second year in a row!
Apprenticeships are a massive part of the culture at Resolve; most of the team has either worked alongside an apprentice or been an apprentice. Currently, we have three apprentices who are working on different qualifications, in addition to the four previous apprentices who have stayed at Resolve and progressed to different roles. Two original apprentices have now progressed to senior roles.
Having hosted apprentices at Resolve for over 10 years now, we are well-versed in knowing what works for them and what could be improved. To make sure the apprentices get the best start to their IT careers, there is nothing we don’t expose them to. Due to the size of our business, we get many tickets varying in ability, this allows our apprentices to learn on the job and upskill quickly with plenty of support around to assist them if they come across something that they are unsure of.
The award night
On 18 May, Jared along with some colleagues representing Resolve will attend the awards ceremony at Magna Science Adventure Centre. I’m sure you’ll all join us in wishing all the different finalists luck and we are excited to see the outcome of the awards on 18 May.
