Group of people.

what we’re all about

We hope you might already have an idea that we’re different from your usual IT crowd, because we’re not robots and we don’t want to be “just” a supplier. We don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach to IT support, and that’s why hundreds of organisations, from small start-ups to multi million pound businesses and charities have chosen us to join their team.

founding story

Resolve began in 2004 when Andrew Seaton, our Director, finished his studies at Sheffield Hallam University. Whilst on his year in industry, he discovered a gap in the IT market, which he was well-placed to fill.

A few months later, degree in hand, Andrew decided to set up his own business. With no previous experience in creating or managing a business, Andrew tried to find out what was possible and what wasn’t. The answer was, as all the fairytales taught us, anything is possible if you put your mind to it.

With a small office in the Broomhill suburb of Sheffield, Andrew slowly picked up a few schools and home users, and began to make it work…

2005

2005 proved to be an important year for Resolve. We made the most of our successes and learnt from our failures, causing the company to grow, and grow stronger. It was because of Andrew’s hard work in this year that Resolve was able to flourish in the years to come.

Although it was still just Andrew, some well-placed professional partnerships meant that Resolve picked up contracts with schools in Doncaster, and also acquired its first contract for a larger business. Andrew had to bring on a part-time administrator to help with the workload, and the groundwork was laid for an exciting future…

2006

2006 was a year of real change and growth for Resolve. Andrew brought on the first full-time technicians, and a number of major installations and support contracts came along. Meanwhile, we were getting some good reviews.

It quickly became obvious that we were going to need a bigger HQ, and the whole operation moved from the old office in Broomhill to a new home on Abbeydale Road, in southwest Sheffield.

Our new home was bigger, better, and there was room to grow. Which was fortunate, as that’s exactly what happened…

2007

In 2007 Resolve made a renewed push into both schools and businesses in 2007. It was a year for taking stock and refining the systems and processes that had got us this far. We continued to focus on customer service, and saw our best year so far in terms of new business, turnover and customer satisfaction.

We also introduced a few nifty new ideas, such as the Resolve newsletter for schools. This was a great way to introduce ourselves, convey some of our personality to the schools, and give away some cool stuff in competitions.

Ben’s starring role in the Resolve newsletter for schools. The “Ask Ben” column proved to be quite a favourite.

2008

2008 saw Pete and Dan joining the team, several new businesses signing up for a support contract, and our we picked up our biggest client yet. We also achieved Microsoft Gold Partner Status and doubled the turnover. Again.

All in all, 2008 was looking like a great year, and business was booming.

Following on from his win with Sheffield Business Parks the previous year, Andrew was also awarded “Best Contributor” with their “Developing a Revolutionary Business” course.

2009

2009 seemed to be the year where everyone noticed the work we were doing. Business continued to grow, and we had our first ever award wins! The Sheffield Business Awards were a real highlight of the year, and a great way to celebrate our fifth birthday. The awards ceremony saw the team turn out in force in their black tie and evening gowns, and Andrew took home the prize with the “Young Businessperson of the Year Award”.

We brought Ross, Daniel and Gaf onto our rapidly growing Helpdesk Team and we picked up a number of new support contracts including our biggest client yet.

2010

2010 was a bumper year for new team members. We welcomed Mike as a Helpdesk Team Leader and Al as our first apprentice. We also brought Jude onto our Helpdesk Team, Fran as Finance Manager, and Joe as Andrew’s PA, whilst 13 new support contracts meant that it wasn’t just the team that was growing.

2011

In 2011 Holly joined our Helpdesk and Matt came on board as our second apprentice. This led to us being recertified a Microsoft Gold Partner for the fourth year running and experiencing our best year yet in terms of turnover and new clients.

2012

2012 was Resolve’s best year yet. In March we became ISO 9001 certified, recertified as a Microsoft Gold Partner and became the first Apple Consultants in Sheffield, in addition to our new partnership with VMware.

We received the Excellence in Customer Service Award at the Sheffield Star Business Awards in October, and launched our live customer satisfaction survey, which displays real-time feedback from our clients.

We also brought on board 11 new members of staff, and Al, Gaf and Dave became Helpdesk Team Leaders, while Pete was appointed Technical Director.

What a year!

2013

We kicked off the year with the introduction of some exciting new products and services.

Kyran and Tobi completed their apprenticeships and became full-time members of the team. Our apprenticeship programme was highly commended at the Yorkshire and Humber National Apprenticeship Awards, and we were named as a Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer.

We ended the year on a high; winning Best Customer Service at the Sheffield Business Awards for the second year running as well as being nominated in the Skills, Development and Apprenticeship category.

2014

We went to Yorkshire & Humber regional final of the National Apprenticeship Awards with QA Apprenticeships and Andrew appeared in Sheffield Star Business Monthly.

We also won Best Customer Service at the Sheffield Business Awards, proving that IT services don’t have to be a complicated nightmare.

2015

After 10 years of the old Resolve logo we refreshed all of our branding and got a sparkling new website. We teamed up with Sheffield-based design agency Side by Side to create a new logo and branding that better reflected our extensive services and friendly approach to business.

Resolve was nominated for a Sheffield Business Award (again!) This year we were nominated for Best use of Technology to Improve Business Performance Award.

We also welcomed five new members of staff into the team, including a new apprentice, marketing coordinator, technical operations manager, technical coordinator and PHP developer.

2016

2016 saw the arrival of several new helpdesk engineers in the form of Jonno, Mark and Rob. Their lovely faces even made it into The Star.

Additionally, Matt D and Ross expanded the account manager team and Graham was hailed technical specialist.

After spending several years in separate offices, the team was reunited in a new open plan office after the removal of several walls and lots of redecorating.

And everyone’s hard work was rewarded when Resolve won Outstanding Business of the Year at the South Yorkshire Business Awards.

2017

2017 was a year of fundraising, football, food and general frivolity at Resolve. We managed to combine two of these activities when raising funds and food for Jubilee Food Bank. We hosted a Coffee & Cake morning and ran a Connect Four Tournament (or Connect4nament as some people preferred to call it).

The football element came in when SWFC invited us to enjoy a night out in a Director’s Box, which inevitably led to plenty of fun even when Sheffield Wednesday lost. Meanwhile, back in the office, the staff room had a make-over and the meeting room started to play host to Microsoft workshops. These special workshops covered Office 365, Azure and disaster recovery planning.

There were also weddings-a-plenty, babies born and promotions left, right and centre. Ged, Dave, Matt, Joe and Neal became technical director, technical account manager, technical specialist, contracts & recruitment manager and technical team manager respectively.

2018

2018 was a year of extreme weather conditions, but we battled the elements to keep our clients’ IT ticking over – with a helping hand from bacon sandwiches in the snow and ice creams in the sun.

We were also on the ball when it comes to developments in the tech world. The arrival of vastly improved disaster recovery services, Microsoft 365 and a managed cyber security service saw our projects team working overtime.

In between fixing computers, we found time to raise money for the Cathedral Archer Project. The World Cup Sweepstake was a particular hit with £60+ pounds going towards assisting the homeless in Sheffield.

Of course, we continued to receive excellent comments from our customers thanks to our wonderful IT engineers going above and beyond. And we also broke a Resolve record by selling more support contracts than ever before in one quarter.

2019

2019 marked our 15th birthday! It is 15 years since Andrew set up an office in his parents’ house and set out with his car and laptop to provide IT support that was technically excellent and super friendly.

There have been significant changes, but the ethos of the company has always stayed the same. To celebrate, we upgraded our logo and we spent June in party mode with surprises and presents galore. The cherry on the cake was winning our fourth customer service accolade in July, courtesy of the Star’s Small Business Awards.

2020

2020 didn’t quite pan out how we imagined! We continued to fix lots of computers, just from home rather than from the office.

Despite a crazy year, we still celebrated some key achievements including a regional award win for our work with apprentices, onboarded a record number of new clients, took on four new members of staff, helped 100+ organisations with the technical challenges presented by the Covid restrictions and rolled out two new services to customers.

2021

For the majority of 2021, the Resolve team continued to work from home, with a gradual return to the office in September.

Despite this, we still had many things to celebrate. We continued to welcome an influx of new customers and took on seven new members of staff to assist with our growing customer base.

Resolve Cyber Security was rolled out to many of our existing and new customers, with some incredible results.

We continued to receive fantastic customer reviews as a thanks to the amazing work our IT engineers do, and hit over 200 Google reviews and achieved a five-star rating!

2022

In 2022, our apprentices attracted a lot of attention for their great work, collecting two nominations in the South Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards and winning Employer of the Year with Baltic Apprenticeships.

Resolve Cyber Security also got nominated for the Yorkshire Post’s Excellence in Business Awards in the Technology category. Due to his fantastic work in this area, Matt Wornes became Resolve’s first ever Cyber Security Consultant, which means he takes care of clients’ security from start to finish.

This wasn’t the only first in 2022 – we also refurbished a new office from scratch, moving in September 2022. There was a huge amount of work involved to get the place up to scratch – walls were ripped down, kitchens were reconfigured and murals were painted. The final office is the perfect mixture of work and play – and we even made a short film to capture it all, here.

2023

In 2023 we started the year strong by reaching our goal of 120 support contracts, to celebrate all the teams went out on group socials enjoying food, drinks and activities.

Throughout the year, we dug deep into our pockets at Resolve and held lots of charity events in support of The Children’s Hospital Charity. By the end of the year, we had raised enough money to sponsor a snowflake at the Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

As well as supporting our community, our team was shortlisted for multiple awards with Jared receiving Highly Commended for Mentor of the Year and Resolve being shortlisted for SME of the Year at the South Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards. Oliver also received Highly Commended for Rising Star of the Year at the National Apprenticeship Awards.

so what do our customers say?

Having won four customer service awards over the years, we like to think our customers are quite satisfied and happy. But in order to make sure they really are, we ask for feedback on every single IT issue we fix and publish the results live online in the Customer Happiness Report.

the people within resolve

It is our marvellous team that makes Resolve the place it is. Without our tip top technical team there would still be IT problems left, right and centre. Get to know the lovely people that keep Resolve ticking over.

our team

sustainable thinking

As a business, we want to be as sustainable as we possibly can. Over the past few years, our main focus has been to reduce the environmental impact of running an office – especially an office full of tech equipment.

We try hard at all the “standard” stuff, like recycling, reducing waste, encouraging cycling to work and prioritising – where possible – local and ethical businesses when purchasing supplies.

Moving to our own office in 2021 also gave us the opportunity to reduce our carbon footprint even more, by installing solar panels and several Tesla batteries to capture energy through solar. For those of you who are interested, we have 60 425W solar panels, which in the middle of a sunny day will produce a peak of 24KWH of energy per hour.

how can we help?

Whether you need a cloud migration, cyber security assistance or advice on moving offices, we’ve got a whole stack of services to help you out. Plus, we know every business is different, so we’ll take time to get to know you before dreaming up the perfect IT solution.
