On Thursday 14th November I attended the National Apprenticeship Awards at the Birmingham NEC with Andrew. We were there to celebrate Resolve IT being inducted into the City & Guilds Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers for 2013, a tremendous achievement that puts us up there alongside the likes of ITV, BT and Virgin Media.
I believe this really reflects the amount of hard work put into Resolve's apprenticeship programme to make sure it has great content, provides the knowledge needed to excel in IT and gives you a great opportunity to start your career.
It was a great night, and we were able to see and hear some of the great apprenticeship stories from other companies. Whilst we were there we also got to see some of the great things that have been created by apprentices, for example the Mercedes AMG Formula 1!
We were also listed as one of Yorkshire and the Humber's highly commended medium employers, which meant that this lovely image greeted us in the main meeting hall as we arrived.
The Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg was there and spoke about the government's commitment to promoting apprenticeships. It was inspiring to hear, especially when Mr Clegg spoke about how very important apprenticeships are, not just to the apprentices themselves but also to employers and the industry as a whole. I thought his speech really summed up how good apprenticeships can be. As a former apprentice myself, I would highly recommend an apprenticeship to anybody who is looking for a route into their chosen career through real work experience.
I am extremely thankful for all of the time and effort that my colleagues at Resolve, and all of the staff at QA Apprenticeships, have put into building not only my knowledge in IT but also me as a person. I believe that I made the best decision of my life so far when I chose to apply for an apprenticeship. I now have a great job working with great people, and a bright future in IT with a clear step-by-step path which shows what I can achieve and how I can achieve it. Next year I would love to see us improve on our outstanding performance this year and win an award for the company as well as a personal award for one of our apprentices.
When I was taking my first steps into the IT industry in 2012, I had no idea where I would end up. 18 months later, I'm working for one of the hundred best employers for apprentices in the country, and am going to be involved in training Resolve's next group of apprentices. They've got a great journey ahead of them!
