Microsoft 365 Business is the highly anticipated solution from Microsoft, offering small and medium sized businesses the opportunity to go completely “serverless”. If you’re not sure what that means, Jude explains in detail here: (https://resolve.co.uk/blog/article/how-can-microsoft-365-help-my-business).
In this blog I will be exploring how Microsoft 365 Business empowers employees from SMBs to work remotely, anywhere, anytime! But, first things first; what is included as part of the Microsoft 365 package?
The monthly fee covers:
- Microsoft Office applications (including Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
- 1TB of file storage, taking advantage of services like SharePoint and OneDrive
- Microsoft Exchange email (50GB mailbox)
- Microsoft Business Applications, including Outlook Customer Manager and MileIQ
- Built in security and device management (all from a central location)
As you can see, there are quite a few elements to Microsoft 365, so the question is how does this help users to work remotely? I mentioned earlier that Microsoft 365 allows you to go completely “serverless” and this means you're not tied to a box in your office, instead you will be utilising SharePoint and OneDrive to store company files and folders. In reality, this means that all you need is an internet connection and you'll have access to company files, any time, any place from any device.
In addition, emails are stored in Microsoft Exchange servers, which means you can access them at any point. The latest figures for Microsoft’s uptime worldwide is 99.99%! This just goes to show how reliable this service is and confirms that no matter where you are, your emails will be easily accessible, whether that be through an internet browser, the application, a desktop PC or mobile device.
However, the savvy ones amongst you will be aware that increased accessibility often means increased security risks. But - no fear - Microsoft 365 has built-in security, so your IT department can sleep easy in the knowledge that devices and company data are protected. From a central location an administrator can deploy policies to each device to encrypt company files, prevent users from copying company data and deploy Windows Defender to protect files and folders. The most impressive part is – should any device be lost or stolen – data can be completely removed from that location. This ensures no company data is ever seen by someone who shouldn’t. Data is always protected and fully controlled.
