We often refer to the fact it actually costs businesses more to maintain out-of-date and super cheap tech. Office specialist Workthere interviewed over 1,000 office workers and found that the average worker is wasting 50 hours a year due to rubbish office technology. Apparently, this could result in an £11 billion loss for UK businesses.

And, it doesn’t end there, Workthere also discovered…

• The younger generation struggle most with old technology. If you’re 16 to 24, speedy phones, computers and games consoles will be the name of the game. So, if you arrive at an office with ancient technology, you’re going to waste 67 minutes per week on inefficient technology, compared to 41 minutes for those over 55.

• If new software is introduced, staff need proper training. Workthere calculates it takes around 42 working hours for an individual member of staff to get to grips with a new program. That equates to around £830 worth of employee’s time, so you need to make sure that time is limited by introducing new software with training.

• Interestingly, 46% of participants believed that a business with cheap tech wasn’t interested in investing in the wellbeing of its staff. So, it seems a limping server can upset current staff and deter future applicants.

• And, you might be putting clients off too. 24% of respondents said they wouldn’t want to do business with companies that don’t have up-to-date office technology.
