Our thoughts on the Digital Region closure

Our thoughts on the Digital Region closure
Here's an update regarding the news that Digital Region is set to close, and how we can help

Yesterday news broke that the South Yorkshire Digital Region project is to close down.

This may seem startling and a cause for concern if your current internet connection is supplied through Digital Region, but a deeper look clarifies the situation. The local councils have pulled out of the project due to financial commitments - this means that funding has effectively ceased. However, there are private companies in discussions with Digital Region to secure the network's future and continue providing super-fast broadband to existing Digital Region customers.

Existing Digital Region customers do not need to worry. In the immediate future you will continue to have the same super-fast broadband you have experienced previously and will do so for at least the next 12 months.

We wouldn't be surprised if the Digital Region network was acquired by another company, with the service continuing to run under a different name with a seamless transition. Time will tell...

What can I do if I'm an existing Digital Region customer?

We are a supplier of Digital Region broadband and our clients have enjoyed super-fast broadband at a low cost for some time now. There is no need to rush into any desicion at the moment, all will become clearer over the next few months. However, we understand that you may wish to move to an alternative solution just in case. We can offer alternatives including our own Fibre To The Cabinet (FTTC) service, which is very similar to Digital Region, alongside more comprehensive solutions such as EFM (a secure connection powered through existing phone lines reaching up to 35Mbps) and Leased Line (one of the fastest internet connections that will run through your own line). We will also offer our existing customers the following benefits;

  • Free migration onto our Fibre To The Cabinet (FTTC) service (if available in your location)
  • Unlimited usage
  • A thorough project plan to ensure your transfer causes minimal downtime

If you have any questions or if you would just want to discuss your options then please feel free to contact us on 0114 299 4050 and we'll be more than happy to help.
