Getting the Most out of Office 365 Workshop

IT Blog from Resolve, IT Experts in Sheffield Getting the Most out of Office 365 Workshop
Get the low down on Resolve’s first Microsoft workshop - including Office 365 tips and plenty of free food.

Last week, Resolve and friends visited the Pointing Dog on Ecclesall Road to find out more about how Office 365 can help improve business operations. Ten of our connections and customers joined us for a morning of tech tips, free food and at least one embarrassing photo of Andrew. If you missed out, here are some of the subjects we covered…

  • Sean from Techdata dazzled us with the high level of security found in Microsoft datacenters; it includes metal detectors, weight checks, biometrics and 24/7/365 protection. We also learnt that all the network cabling in Microsoft datacenters worldwide, could reach to the moon and back ten times! If you’d like to get a sneak peek inside a datacenter, you can, here:

  • Once Sean had highlighted how secure working in the cloud is (and how much easier it makes things for SMEs), he moved on to how Office 365 can assist with business compliance. There is a Security & Compliance Centre available, which means you can keep all your legal documentation in one place. He also gave us a whistle-stop tour of Office 365 Archive, eDiscovery, In-Place Hold, Auditing and Email Attachment Blocking.

  • Ged made this snazzy diagram of all the programs included in Office 365 and then asked for workshop participants to discuss the ones they used. It turned out, that plenty of programs weren’t utilised, so Ged proceeded to unpack some of the ways Office 365 can be helpful beyond the standard email/calendar/Skype tool.

  • One of Ged's favourite Office 365 tools is SharePoint. For those of you that don't know what SharePoint is, Microsoft describes it as: "a cloud-based service that helps organisations share and collaborate with colleagues, partners, and customers. With SharePoint Online, you can access internal sites, documents, and other information from anywhere—at the office, at home, or from a mobile device." It is a pretty nifty tool and Ged spent the rest of workshop demonstrating how it can help streamline projects.

After all this info, we were in the mood for food and luckily it was steak and chips for lunch!

Contrary to this photograph, the workshop attendees were actually very attentive - it was just Andrew struggling to keep his eyes open!

    Hi Hannah,

Yes I'd be interested in workshops on SharePoint but we'd be keen to send 1 or 2 people on a general workshop on the broader potential within office 365
